Editorial Wig Cut Out

Doing editorial, runway and NAHA usually means working with wigs, so mastering a wig wrap is essential. Watch Ruth Roche, Global Artistic Ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care, do a super smooth wig wrap and then shape and style a wig for an editorial shoot.
“A wig wrap should look like one smooth motion... you shouldn’t see where any section starts or stops. It’s created by working very methodically, section by section on wet hair to stay in control,” explains Roche.
Wig Wrap
Note: Start with wet hair and use the fine teeth of a comb to stretch and smooth. Keep hair moist throughout the process, so it’s moldable.
  1. Take a circular section at the crown of the head that dips down a bit in the back and clip hair up.
  2. Create a side part and comb hair to the side with most of the hair down and flat.
  3. At the back of the ear, take a vertical section and comb hair up and over the top of the head to the hair already smoothed and combed together - use the curvature of the head to help manipulate hair. Clip the flat section to stabilize.
  4. Continue taking vertical sections around the head and join them to the original section.
  5. When all hair is combed and smooth, take that section and wrap it around the head to form a circle around the clipped up section. Carefully pin the edge of the wrapped area away from the circle and spray with Pureology Strengthening Control zero dulling hairspray to hold (only use a small amount).
  6. Take out the section, drop it down and comb to smooth, stay away from the edge of the circle – use hand to hold hair up and away from it.
  7. Lay section over the back part of circle, secure with clip and comb the ends up and around the head.
  8. Diffuse it to dry – take all clips out and smooth with hands.
Watch the video to then see Roche place a geometric cut out wig on top and shape and style.
Now, that’s a wrap!
